Abstract The European Court of Human Rights’ ruling in KlimaSeniorinnen (2024) establishes obligations for states to do their part to mitigate the climate crisis. It also strengthened participatory and deliberative elements in the domestic democratic process, e.g., by enhancing standing for associations, reducing the margin of appreciation for mitigation objectives, and imposing a duty to quantify a state’s fair share.
