Abstract Sex reassignment is the surgical or chemical modification of the body's secondary sexual characteristics, primarily to respond to the needs of transgender people. It can focus on the sexual organs or other gender‐ and sex‐marked features of the body. The availability and form of sex reassignment varies across different national contexts, being dependent on different medical traditions and legal systems, as well as on different funding regimes for medical care.
