| Abstract | In this chapter we address the socio-environmental impacts of austerity by following a Gramscian political ecology approach, with a special focus on Gramsci's notion of the philosophy of praxis. This approach provides pathways for understanding how austerity shapes the dynamics of environmental conflict and offers insights into how the subaltern mobilises environmental issues to both fight against the normalisation of austerity over time and attempt to generate solidarity-making, new forms of self-organisation and mobilisation, and alternative conceptions of the world. |
