Abstract The aim of the research presented in this thesis is advancing Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) a novel high resolution optical imaging technique, and Irreversible Electroporation (IRE) a novel minimally invasive ablative technology, for use in renal mass therapy. In pursuit of that purpose, early clinical research is presented focusing on the exploration and validation of percutaneous image-guided needle-based OCT, and basic and animal research into temperature development and distribution during renal IRE.
