Abstract
Recent comparative research (Genis, Barentsen et al. 2021) into expressions of habituality in Slavic languages has noted a Slovak construction that has not yet been fully researched nor has corpus data been gathered. We argue that the verb zvyknúť, explicitly without reflexive pronoun si in the construction with an infinitive functions as an imperfective auxiliary of habituality; as such it is quite special amongst Slavic languages, especially as it is also lacking in related Czech. This contribution is an account of the corpus data gathered about this otherwise undescribed auxiliary: the construction it appears in, its grammaticalization, its place and status in contemporary Slovak. The data gathered will also serve to further our research into expressions of habituality in a wider Slavic context.
