Abstract Our article presents a synthetic analysis of Molière’s popularity as manifested in the large number of performances of his plays at the Schouwburg, the Amsterdam Theatre. Our analysis will be based on the ONSTAGE database, established by the University of Amsterdam, which lists all theatrical performances at the Schouwburg, detailing a large amount of data, including performance dates and receipts.
