Abstract
This contribution conceptualizes curriculum as design for learning. The aim of curriculum design (thus the design of a design) is to transform ideas about desirable aims and contents for learning into artifacts that foster instructional practices leading toward intended learning outcomes. Ideally, the process of curriculum design results in artifacts that are both coherent and shared by a large variety of stakeholders. Curriculum design takes place at different levels of the educational system. It is both a systematic as well as a highly socio-political process. Approaches to curriculum design and major actors in the curriculum design process are discussed.
