Abstract The main aim of this thesis was to describe and assess the efficacy of the Patient-Centred Treatment (PCT) strategy for the delivery and supervision of tuberculosis (TB) treatment as implemented by the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy programme of Tanzania. The studies presented in this thesis show that the PCT strategy is acceptable and effective in TB control in Tanzania. The evidence of the effectiveness of the PCT strategy in a programmatic setting can be of value for areas outside the context of TB (other chronic diseases) and other developing-countries.
