| Abstract |
In this entry the concept of hard and soft news is introduced. First, the concept is defined and the entry discusses the (historical) development from one‐dimensional to multi dimensional understandings of the concept. The entry shows overlaps and differences to other, often synonymously used concepts. It also discusses content analytical and media effects research on hard and soft news. Lastly, the societal and academic relevance of the concept is pointed out.
