Abstract This dissertation examines the metabolic circulation of beer in Amsterdam by tracing it through histories, geographies, and practices of production and consumption. By following the flow of beer through time and space, it explores how bodies, commodities, and cities are made and remade sensuously, unevenly, together. The key objective is to reveal the active role that the senses and sensory activity, in particular the understudied sense of taste, play in the socioecological metabolic process of urbanization.
