Resolving conflicts affecting pastoralists and farmers in rural Nigeria: Main issues and best practices

Conflicts involving pastoralists and farmers take different forms in Nigeria and require a mixture of policies and interventions to prevent and resolve them. The aim of this study is to outline the main dimensions of these. The focus is on a country, Nigeria, which overall likely has the highest levels of violence between pastoral and farming groups in Africa. However, even in this context, there are examples of coexistence. There is significant variation in the level of violence across the central and northern states. The topics, touched on in varying levels of details, are land, pastoral mobility, armed conflict and security actors, integrating livelihoods, the challenges faced by young pastoralists, and internal dialogue capacity.
