Abstract Here we present the formation of an iminothioindoxyl (ITI)subset of Cage complex that retains the photochemical properties of the photoswitch within a confined environment in water. At the same time, besides ultrafast switching inside the cage, the ITI photoswitch displays an intriguing bifurcation of the excited state isomerization pathway when encapsulated. Confining iminothioindoxyl photoswitches within a supramolecular coordination cage imparts a bifurcation of the excited state isomerization pathway.
