Abstract In this special issue, we have collected papers that deal with formative writing assessment for change, and papers that relate to various aspects of the framework described above. Common to all papers are pursuits of assessment tools that can yield meaningful interpretations, and lead to decisions, and ultimately beneficial consequences for students. In the sections that follow, we describe the papers included in this issue.
