| Abstract |
Capitalism is failing us, in large part because it is based on an economic narrative that lacks a convincing theoretical foundation. In this narrative, the role of management is to maximize profits. This lecture argues that an evolutionary understanding of human behavior and organization can lay the foundation for an alternative and theoretically much more convincing narrative of capitalism in which the role of management is to balance stakeholder interests. This alternative narrative offers at least some hope for a capitalist system in which firms serve humanity, as opposed to the other way around.
