Abstract The study of seaweeds with their associated microbiomes (the holobiome) has been growing and emerging as a necessary tool to study evolution, adaptation, development, and global function of the seaweed hosts, and possible applications of this knowledge to modulate their morphogenesis, growth, health, and defense. Here, we describe the materials and methods, from field sampling to data analysis, to unravel the structure, diversity, and the predicted function (as a starting point to further functional studies) of bacterial communities associated to seaweeds.
