| Abstract |
In 2014, divers lifted a bundle of textiles from a seventeenth-century shipwreck for the roadstead of Texel. This unique find raised many questions. From 2016 onwards, research is carried out on these textile finds by various institutions, including the University of Amsterdam. This article reports on recent sub-studies. Firstly, the study by two students of the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage course at the University of Amsterdam into the best parameters for rinsing and drying maritime archaeological textiles is discussed. Secondly, the drawing of patterns of the garments attained by the School of Historical Dress employees from London. Lastly, the attempts to make 3D animations of these garments by the 4D Research Lab at the University of Amsterdam. The research into textiles is part of a larger project into objects from the Palmwood wreck led by Maarten van Bommel, professor of natural science aspects of conservation and restoration of movable cultural heritage at the University of Amsterdam.
