| Abstract |
The Mindfulness in Communication Scale (MCS) is a questionnaire designed to assess the behavioral correlates of mindfulness in verbal communication with others. It consists of 9 items, capturing three key facets of mindfulness in communication: (1) being present and paying attention, (2) showing an open, non-judging attitude, and (3) staying calm and non-impulsive. Originally developed to examine the interpersonal effects of mindfulness in leader-follower relationships, the MCS can also be also used in other interpersonal contexts. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with a sample of 204 participants and a confirmatory factor analysis with 214 participants showed satisfactory fit statistics. The MCS is available in two formats: an other-rated version and a self-rated version, both available in English and German. Notably, other-rated mindfulness in communication has been shown to positively correlate with self-reported mindfulness.
