| Abstract |
The Deltaprogramme is structured through five key "Delta decisions" with regard to water safety and fresh water supply. For these decisions, economic analysis is important. Even in this early stage of policy preparation, it helps to identify cost-effective elements in the strategies. Therefore, economic analysis is an essential element in creating superior strategies. In cost-benefit analysis, special attention is needed with regard to discounting long-term benefits, which might need a different approach. Another important issue is flexibility in investment paths, for which the real option approach is advocated.
