Abstract This thesis analyzes contemporary security provision in Miami, where civilians, police officers, and private security guards make use of guns, cameras, and secrets for individualized purposes.
I focus specifically on the law, as a framework that informs practices and thought processes, and show how the imaginary hereof shapes rights, responsibilities, violence, and urban inequalities.
In light of this, Miamians increasingly ask themselves what is legal, instead of what is moral, ethical, or social.
