La résonance des «mouvements des places»: connexions, émotions, valuers

Since 2011, wide-scale mobilization of citizens has developed in very different contexts and around basically national demands.Nevertheless, certain aspects of the Arab revolutions, the ‘Indignados’ movement and Occupy or the demonstrations for more democracy in Mexico or in Russia share certain points in common which means that they resonate with one another. This article aims
to explore these by reviewing the networks and connections, a global context, and the shared emotions and values. The second part of the text shows tht this resonance is based on the articulation of three values which are at the core of the demands and the identity of each of these movements: democracy, dignity and social justice. These elements suggest the need to go beyond the analytical framework of the new social movements, in particular because of the close relation between cultural and socio-economic considerations in each of these movements. But there is also the need to question the ontological limits of the relationship to the world and to the political sphere of these movements; these become salient when the issues which they have raised in society are located in the arena of institutional politics.
