Abstract Lázló Marácz deals with the ethnic minorities that in spite of the ethnic homogenization of Central Europe during the 20th century still live in the Central European states. Three cases in particular that give rise to tensions and ethnic conflicts are elaborated in this article, i.e. Roma, predominantly living in Romania, the German communities of Poland and the Czech Republic; and the Hungarian minorities in Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and the Ukraine.
