Abstract The text examines the intertwining of hip hop culture and urban dance forms, tracing the historical rearrangements of this youthful, Afro-diasporic, urban, marginalized, and rebellious movement, which is frequently celebrated and reshaped in party settings. Furthermore, they explore how the uses and disuses of "urban dances" as an umbrella notion have evolved into a racialized performative, navigating both the professionalization of the practice in Rio de Janeiro and its hyper-mediatization and transnational dissemination.
