Abstract
Although their name implies otherwise, benign liver tumours can negatively influence quality of life of patients, and some subtypes bare a risk of malignant transformation and bleeding. This thesis comprises studies on hepatocellular adenoma, focal nodular hyperplasia, haemangioma and simple hepatic cysts. The overall aim was to evaluate the current treatment status of benign liver tumours, in order to suggest improvements of the multidisciplinary, evidence-based treatment strategies. To this end, this thesis integrates (I) quality of life and surgical outcomes, (II) minimally invasive interventional radiological techniques, and (III) diagnostics. The diagnostics section focuses on risk stratification based on both medical imaging and pathology, including molecular subtyping and clinical follow-up.
