Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is heterogeneous disease arising via multiple distinct pathways. One of these pathways is the serrated neoplasia pathway, which encompasses the malignant transformation of serrated polyps into CRC. It is now increasingly recognized that a substantial proportion of CRCs arises via this pathway and there are reasons to believe that the serrated neoplasia pathway may be responsible for a disproportional number of interval cancers. The research reported in this thesis focuses on the epidemiology and endoscopic appearance of serrated polyps, as well as, on the treatment and surveillance of patients with serrated polyposis syndrome and their relatives.
