Abstract
One of the key findings of the research project that provides the basis for this volume is that the key condition for the settlement of managers, employers, employees and transnational migrants who are active in the creative and knowledge-intensive industries in a specific city or city-region closely relates to personal experiences and personal relationships. These include, for example, the location of friends and family members, or place of birth. In this introductory chapter, the role of personal networks, the key concept in Part IV, is highlighted, and the subjects dealt with in later chapters are introduced.
