| Description |
This is a digital 3D reconstruction of the 'Internationale Theatertentoonstelling' (International Theater exhibit) as was on display in the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 1922. The model was created by the 4D Research Lab of the University of Amsterdam for the project 'Museaal Verleden', financed with a KIEM grant by the National Scientific Organisation (KIEM.K23.01.173).
The aim of the project was to develop and test a set of methods and tools to archive historical museum exhibitions virtually in 3D. The model of the Internationale Theatertentoonstelling 1922 is one of the case studies in this project.
This model is based on archival evidence of the original exhibit, including 11 historical photosgraphs, the original exhibition plan and descriptions by the creator and various commentators or journalists. The available source data covers the spaces only partially (see the collection 'photo coverage' in the appended Blend-file) and is especially lacking in information on colours, so to complete the model various assumptions had to be made. This will be published in more detail in the future.
This model only includes the fixed architectural design of the exhibit. The art that was displayed has been partially reconstructed in a VR room using Hubs Cloud software (accessible at virtualplaces-uva.eu).
