Abstract
In the last decades, knowledge on pancreatic diseases has rapidly evolved. The founding of both the Dutch Pancreatitis Study Group and the Dutch Pancreatic Cancer Group (DPCG) have contributed significantly to improve diagnosis and treatment in pancreatic diseases. However, much still remains to be investigated, especially in patients with (pre) malignant pancreatic lesions. The general aim of this thesis is to further improve the understanding of (pre)malignant pancreatobiliary diseases as well as to further improve clinical outcome of patients suffering from these diseases. The first part of this thesis focuses on diagnosis and clinical decision making in patients with pancreatic cystic neoplasms (PCN). In the second part of this thesis, the research focuses on improving diagnostics and outcome in pancreatic cancer and periampullary cancer.
