Abstract When multiple entities, such as ships, are threatened by hostile objects they can benefit from coordinating actions towards these objects. To enable coordination the ships need to share information about these objects to create an identical shared awareness. Unfortunately, optimal identical shared awareness is often not possible due to limited communication capabilities, particularly when the system includes complex sensors that generate vast quantities of data. The goal of this thesis is to optimize awareness under communication constraints and four aspects were addressed to attain this goal.
