Abstract China is one of the greatest civilizations which possesses a superior printing tradition. There was a large quantity of Chinese businessmen and workmen living in colonial Indonesia, many of them were involved in the printing industry. This paper reviews the printing history of paranakan Chinese from a Dutch historian’s perspective, to investigate how it promoted Confucianism and shaped the Chinese society in this colony.
