| Abstract |
This first issue of the 2025 volume of Samuel Beckett Today / Aujourd’hui is devoted not to a single theme; rather, its three parts explore some current research trends in Beckett studies.1
Part 1 comprises five articles on Beckett’s poetry, the first four of
which were developed out of presentations given at the 7th International
Conference of The Samuel Beckett Society, ‘Beckett & Poetry’, held
in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 26 until 28 October 2022. The local
organizers of this conference in Argentina were Lucas Margarit and María
Inés Castagnino, and the editorial and advisory board of Samuel Beckett Today / Aujourd’hui
would like to thank both sincerely for their cooperation with the
journal. Maria Castagnino has been essential in liaising between the
authors of the conference and the journal. A number of contributions to
this conference that were presented in Spanish have been published in
2023 in the latest issue of the review Beckettiana (no. 20), the
online, open-access Spanish language review based in Argentina and
devoted to Beckett studies. The five articles that we publish here often
show the close connections between Beckett’s own poetry (or his
preference for certain poets), on the one hand, and his other literary
work on the other. This is because of strong thematic connections
between the poetry and the prose, and also because of the poems by
Beckett that are integrated in the other texts—or that are alluded to in
the prose or theatre (the latter ones written by other poets than
Beckett). The board of Samuel Beckett Today / Aujourd’hui
is pleased to be able to publish these contributions to the analysis of
an aspect of Beckett’s work that has received less attention.
