Abstract
The overall aim of this thesis was to create a transdiagnostic perspective of suicidal ideation. To this end, we studied suicidal ideation among individuals living with a mental disorder, specifically among individuals living with major depressive disorder in the Netherlands, and among individuals with first-episode psychosis in Europe. Additionally, we studied control individuals from the general population without an antecedent psychiatric history. We also examined suicidal ideation among individuals belonging to ethnic minority groups in the Netherlands. Finally, we explored the efficacy of a guided internet-based behavioural activation intervention for suicidal ideation among individuals with depression in Indonesia. Our findings support the view that suicidal ideation is a transdiagnostic phenomenon and illustrate the clinical relevance of suicidal ideation.
