| Abstract |
This study uses a unique database to contribute to issue management literature by exploring empirically how online stakeholder activism against corporations through social media is related to corporate environmental performance. The firm’s role in this process is also considered: how the firm reacts to stakeholder activism and how the firm itself uses social media. Hypotheses are developed based on resource dependence and stakeholder theories. The discussion of the contributions and implications of this finding includes suggestions for future research.
