Abstract This thesis explores the role of transcription factor Tbx3 in the developing and mature cardiac conduction system. In the adult heart, the conduction system is responsible for the initiation and coordination of the rhythmic contraction of the heart. By studying Tbx3, we have gained further insight into the mechanisms of heart development in general and conduction system development and function in particular. These insights will provide clues for how to stratify arrhythmia risk, predict drug response and develop strategies for new therapies.
