Abstract	Bij beschadiging van de mucosa komen serumeiwitten in mondvloeistof terecht. Bij gingivitis en parodontitis komt GCF in de mondvloeistof terecht. GCF bevat naast serumeiwitten ook componenten die afkomstig zijn van bacteriën en ontstekingscellen in de parodontale pocket. Speeksel van parodontitispatiënten bevat daarnaast producten die ontstaan bij de afbraak van kaakbot. Bij experimentele gingivitis brengt de parotisklier cystatine C tot expressie.
