Abstract Five distinct paradigms can be used to describe cyber operations: governance, protection, law enforcement, intelligence, and military operations. The last paradigm constitutes the most far-reaching framework for governmental action. The proliferation of concepts such as cyber attacks, cyber targeting and cyber war are indicative of a growing militarisation of cyberspace.
