| Abstract |
Atmospheric composition of gas giants provides information about the history of the planet. Therefore, studying these compositions provides insight into the formation history of these planets. Planet formation, however, consists of complex processes. Furthermore, evolution of the atmosphere makes it complex to retrieve information about the formation history of gas giants. Planet formation models provide a tool to understand how different aspects of planet formation would impact the atmospheric composition of gas giants. Such models have shown some connections between carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and heavier elements such as sulfur and magnesium to the formation history and more specifically to the formation location of the planets. In this dissertation, I created one such simulation, SimAb. I discussed how the atmospheric composition of gas giants are connected to their migration distance, and the presence of solid phase and their sizes in the natal disk of the protoplanet. In later chapters, I use this simulation to discuss the possible formation scenario for planets WASP-77Ab, and WASP-31b based on the framework of SimAb. In the final chapter I discuss how by using formation models integrated with atmospheric simulations, we can directly retrieve information on the formation history of gas giants.
