Abstract
In this article, educational success of people registered in Dutch higher education is
monitored. The emphasis lies on the difference between immigrants and non-immigrants.
Within the group of immigrants, several subgroups are presented.
The data used contain an integral cohort of students who started their higher education in
1996. These students are followed for ten years, giving insight in their success and duration
of their studies.
The research shows that immigrants have more difficulties achieving a diploma: fewer students graduate and those who do, use more time. Within the group of immigrants, western immigrants experience less difficulties achieving a diploma in less time, although the differences are not as large as one might expect.
