Dutch Transnational Feminist Solidarity Activism across North-South Divides 1975-2018

The book analyses the so far unnoticed history of nearly five decades of Dutch transnational feminist solidarity with women's rights in the Global South. The history begins in 1975, the International Women's Year, which ignited contemporary Dutch transnational feminist solidarity engagement. A guiding thread in the book is the significance of collaboration between different feminist actors concerned with women's rights and gender equality issues in the Global South. The collaboration between actors in politics, bureaucracy, academia and civil society in the Netherlands, and with actors from and based in the Global South, has contributed to policy, knowledge and political and financial support for women's struggles in the Global South. In discussing different case studies of solidarity activism and advocacy, the author provides evidence and an explanation for the sustainability and outcomes of Dutch transnational feminist solidarity activism and how this has been distinct from Dutch feminist advocacy focused on domestic gender equality policy issues.
