| Abstract |
Health and social care services are under pressure. There is emerging consensus that the challenges stem from a wide range of factors that are not limited to the health care field alone. To adequately address citizens’ needs and add value to their lives, policy makers and service providers are opting for and investing in better integration and coherence in (care) service delivery and data-driven approaches. One such approach is performance intelligence, which has gained attention for its potential to improve the integration of health and social care. Performance intelligence refers to the systematic use of data and analytics to inform decision making and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services. If and how performance intelligence can drive integrated care delivery in the health and social care system is the focus of this thesis. It examines three recent initiatives and two natural experiments within the Dutch health and social care system that are broadening the use of data and information beyond organizational or professional boundaries to drive integrated care.
