Abstract The aim of this thesis is to investigate novel and more advantageous strategies to treat esophageal cancer, particularly focusing on dendritic cell (DC) immunotherapy. DC immunotherapy is an attractive strategy which could represent an alternative treatment approach for such an aggressive cancer. DC immunotherapy is still under development and in numerous aspects needs to be further optimized in preclinical studies. This thesis aimed at resolving a number of important difficulties in this field, in order to prepare for a phase I/II clinical trial.
