| Abstract |
The central question in critical discussions on validity is: What is valid, the test or the test score? Answering the question ‘What does the test measure?’ has proven to be extremely difficult, and has caused attention to shift to the question ‘With which variables do the test scores correlate?’ In principle, the attribute the test measures does not have to be ascertained anymore. We discuss the central question in the validity debate, discuss a few deviant viewpoints, and emphasize the necessity of ascertaining which attribute the test measures.
