Abstract Controversies regarding the structure and function of the pelvic floor continue to persist because of its poor accessibility and complicated anatomical architecture. Since virtually all studies are based on a dissectional approach with the scalpel, we opted to study the topographic anatomy of structures in the pelvic floor in high-resolution images of thin sections of 4 female and 2 male bodies of the Chinese Visible Human (CVH) data set, of the single male and female bodies of the American Visible Human Project, and of 2 male fetuses from Leiden University Medical School.
