Abstract
This periodical review examines urban history scholarship published in 2024, drawing from academic journals that include focus on post-1800 urban history. The review identifies the prominent themes that have shaped the field over the past year, highlighting historiographical trends and approaches. Key themes include the interplay between heritage and the built environment, climate change, the global South, technology and the urban environment, women’s movements, housing discrimination, protests and decolonization. In addition to thematic analysis, the review spotlights several notable articles and special issues that offer innovative contributions. This synthesis aims to provide urban historians with a comprehensive overview of the field’s current trajectory and to inspire further dialogue and research.
