Abstract Tertiary education compensates male and female students more than it financially rewards students who complete only secondary education. These benefits, however, do not apply equally to male and female students. Researchers in the United States have found that the earnings of male college graduates almost always surpass the earnings of female college graduates, a finding that extends to other countries as well.
