Abstract
In reproductive medicine, safety testing does not occur systematically prior to clinical implementation of a novel technique, even though a new technique could harbor risks for both the patient as well as the children conceived through this technique. The main goal of this thesis was to study safety aspects of medically assisted reproduction (MAR), including in vitro fertilization (IVF) that is commonly used in the clinic, and the novel spermatogonial stem cell autotransplantation (SSCT) technique that has not been implemented yet in the clinic. In the final chapter, we provide our opinion on how preclinical safety testing should be performed for new reproductive techniques.
