| Abstract |
This article describes the development of the meaning of the word “trauma” and the way the term is now used in a much wider way by public speech. Originally, trauma was only used in a psychiatric sense, but the idea of trauma is now more widespread. The article follows this development and discusses the term’s reception in popular discourse.
