Abstract This chapter covers issues of water law and rights in terms of generic issues. Following an introduction to law, it discusses the origins of water law, how water law is organized, various issues related to the quantity of water (including property rights and priority of use), issues related to the quality of water and environmental concerns and integrated water resource management. It then discusses key issues in transboundary water law, before drawing conclusions about the future challenges to water law.
