Abstract Why do some citizens support income redistribution and tax hikes for the rich while others oppose such policies? Bert Bakker suggests that personality traits are associated with economic ideology, e.g., attitudes towards redistribution and taxation. In the UK, Denmark and the United States agreeable and neurotic citizens hold a more left-wing economic ideology, while conscientious citizens hold a more right-wing economic ideology. However, this association is weaker among citizens with a lower income.
