Ontslagbescherming is schadelijk voor economische efficiency en versoepeling is gewenst: het stimuleert de herallocatie van arbeid en daarmee de groei van de productiviteit. De slogan "opvoering van de participatie" wordt hier gekapitteld om zijn simplisme; hogere arbeidsparticipatie is niet synoniem met hogere welvaart.
