| Abstract |
Multidimensional scaling (MDS) is a class of statistical models that are used to represent proximity data, such as similarity judgments, preference or choice data, in a multidimensional space. MDS is frequently applied in psychology and marketing but it is also a valuable method for many questions in communication science. This entry introduces the main principles and types of MDS discerning exploratory and confirmatory approaches.
